For Immediate Release — Colorado

Hazel's Treasures™, a kid-founded, kid-led, parent-supported family business based in Colorado, is officially launching with a simple mission: create small moments of joy for kids and families while giving back to the local community.

Founded by Hazel — a 6-year-old Colorado kindergartner — the company places bright, family-friendly bouncy ball vending machines inside local businesses. Each machine is designed to be clean, colorful, and accessible: a 50-cent surprise for a child visiting an ice cream shop, swim school, or family restaurant. Ten percent of all profits are donated to Children's Hospital Colorado.

A business built with a kindergartner at the center

Hazel is involved in the business from the ground up. She helped choose the bouncy balls and toys, picked the pink-and-purple machine colors, selected the stand, and set the price at 50 cents so that any child could afford a treasure. She helps clean and maintain the machines, refills inventory, and sorts bouncy balls by color.

For Hazel's parents, the business is intentionally about more than vending. They wanted their kindergartner to have a real, hands-on way to build confidence, perseverance, communication, entrepreneurship, and responsibility — including learning how to hear "no" from a potential partner and keep going anyway. Those lessons are built into the day-to-day of running Hazel's Treasures™.

Choosing a cause

When the family talked through how the business could give back, Hazel was given a few options to consider — helping animals, helping the earth and environment, or helping children. She chose children. From there, the family selected Children's Hospital Colorado as the organization to support, and committed to donating 10% of profits on an ongoing basis.

The first yes: Dante's Serious Ice Cream

Hazel's first location was Dante's Serious Ice Cream in Thornton, Colorado — but it wasn't the first business she pitched. The first shop she approached said no. The second one passed as well. Dante's was the third business she walked into, and the first to say yes. For a 6-year-old, hearing "no" twice and choosing to keep going is exactly the kind of real-world lesson her parents hoped the business would create.

The family put together a real flyer explaining the business and the charitable mission, and Hazel walked in with her mom to introduce it in person. She started the conversation simply: "Hi, I'm Hazel and this is my mom…" From there, she helped explain what Hazel's Treasures™ is, how the machines work, and how a portion of every sale supports Children's Hospital Colorado. The owner said yes, and the first machine was installed shortly after.

Within seconds of the machine being set up, a child walked up, put in a quarter, and bought a bouncy ball — an immediate, real-world sign that the concept resonated with the families the business is built for.

Early expansion across Colorado

With the first machine running successfully at Dante's, Hazel's Treasures™ is now beginning to expand into additional Colorado family-friendly businesses. The team is actively looking for new host locations, including:

  • Ice cream shops and dessert cafés
  • Swim schools and kid-focused fitness studios
  • Family entertainment centers
  • Family-friendly restaurants
  • Kids recreation and activity spaces
  • Other community-focused businesses with family foot traffic

Hazel's Treasures™ handles machine placement, maintenance, cleaning, and restocking. There is no cost to the host business — only a small footprint of floor space and a willingness to support a kid-led local business.

Career Day and community involvement

Shortly after launching, Hazel was invited to speak to a group of 2- to 5-year-olds at an upcoming Career Day event. She is excited about the opportunity, and her family loves that the business is already creating real moments to encourage confidence and entrepreneurship at a young age.

About the charitable mission

Children's Hospital Colorado is a central part of the Hazel's Treasures™ identity. The 10% donation is built into the business model from day one, and grows alongside the business as more machines are placed in Colorado communities.

How to partner with Hazel's Treasures™

Colorado businesses interested in hosting a Hazel's Treasures™ machine are encouraged to reach out. There is no cost to host — the Hazel's Treasures™ team manages delivery, installation, maintenance, cleaning, and inventory restocking.
